Poetry Blog

In Language Arts we have been learning about poetry.  We’ve discussed poetic devices such as Rhyme Scheme, Rhythm, Alliteration, Similes, Metaphors, and Evoking emotions.

Please read the following poem written by Emily Dickinson and comment on it:

I started out ealy, took my dog.

And visited the sea-

The mermaids in the basement

Came out to look at me,

And the frigates in the upper floor

Extended hemen hands-

Presuming me to be a mouse

Aground, upon the sands,

But no man moved me till the tide

Went past my simple shoe-

And past my apron and my belt,

And past my bodice too,

And made as he would eat me up

And wholly as a dew

Upon a dandelion’s sleeve-

And then I started too.

And he-he followed close behind;

I felt his silver heel

Upon my ankle-then my shoes

Would overflow with pearl.

Until we met the sold town,

No one he seemed to know-

And bowing with a mighty look

At me, the sea withdrew.

Anger Management Styles

October 15th, 2007 by · 18 Comments · Responses

Mr. Williamson, our school counselor, recently taught us about different Anger Management Styles.

Think about the following questions and respond to them:

  • How would you describe your anger management style?
  • Is it working for you?
  • What would you like to change about your anger management style?
  • Do you think your anger management style is something you learned, or is it part of your personality? (If you did learn it, where did you learn it?)

We are learning about how the Native Americans adapted to their environment.
Tell about a time that you had to adapt to a new place or a new situation.

Moving to a new country

Mr. Dudash- I had to adapt when I moved to Thailand from Arizona. I was used to living in a warm climate, but Thailand is much more humid than Arizona. I also had to become familiar with my new surroundings so I didn’t get lost. After being here for 3 years, I am now very comfortable with living in Thailand. Although I still find Thai a very difficult language to learn, I can now communicate with taxi drivers. I have made some wonderful new friends here, I work at a great school, I love the spicy Thai food, and the people here are very kind. Although adapting to a new environment can be scary, I feel it makes my life richer by learning from new experiences.
